(Fortuna POP!)

The Fortuna POP! label has been dishing out the best happy-go-lucky indie pop bands around for a few years now, so no surprises that the Australian band Allo Darlin' have settled under their thatched cottage of cosiness.
Bearing a few similarities to Lucky Soul and Slow Club, much of the music was written on a ukulele before being brightened up by the band, resulting in some fresh and romantic pop songs. On 'Heartbeat Chilli' singer Elizabeth Morris describes the way young love can elevate the everyday into something magical; "I was in the kitchen on my own making chilli / you came in with an onion and got dicing."
Later on she ponders whether Woody Allen would write the screenplay to the movie of her life; the script wouldn't be "his best - but certainly not his worst either."
These lyrics are made all the more intimate by the easy going melodies, which serve to frame Elizabeth rather than take the front seat themselves. This is possibly an area the band might want to develop in the future (if they want to really get stuck inside people's heads), but for now the springtime simplicity is by far enough to enjoy. Don't embark on your summer affair without this under your belt.
