Stuart Gadd gets his gums around a fantastic split single, with Blue On Blue's "disturbing midsummer daydream' and Os Ovni's "moonbeam electronica"...

You might describe this transatlantic split ep as comprising respectively an arts lab side and one set on the retro groovy moon lab in Space 1999.

There's room for manoeuvre here however. London duo Blue on Blue's 'Silent Walls' for example may live in a disturbing midsummer daydream conjuring Broadcast but there's still a skankless hint of a love for Whitney style r'n'b. 'The Machinery link between heart and soul' however is a procession of almost Elizabethan notes on harp, keys and subdued organ building to a wordless hymn of sombre beauty.

In comparison the synth psych of Florida's Os Ovni is more kinetic but their title track still has the spookiness of the moonbeam electronica of John Maus and The Horrors. With the attention to detail here, both groups have clearly spent excellent time in the sound lab.
