Lacking the pretentiousness that other garage rockers tend to carry with them, Cass McCombs brings with him a cute classiness.
‘Humor Risk’ is a kind of autumnal record, which would go well with a glass of merlot, some lit candles and a bohemian spirit. It's the kind of record that could soundtrack a late night conversation between friends. It's a very comfy album. But unlike cozy nights in with friends, ‘Humor Risk’ grows very tired by the third track. Like a brand new woolly blanket which you can’t quite curl up with, this album will require familiarity to really come in use.
With McCombs' voice seeming genuine and the lyrics far from conceited, that process will be a pleasure: in a world saturated with singer-songwriters, McCombs stands-out as a beautiful artist.
