Delphic - Acolyte

Has Delphic already fallen victim to the Hype Monster, or is Acolyte really rather good? We find out...

Delphic - Acolyte“Do not fear the synth, for it does not fear you” seems to be the not so hidden message emanating from Camp Delphic (otherwise known as the trio’s Manchester flat).

Delphic certainly do not fear the synth, but nor do they restrict themselves to it. Yes, there’s plenty of button-twiddling present on Acolyte, but the band has also forced indie guitar lines through pitch-shifters and effects pedals to create a sound that’s bigger and certainly bolder than many of their contemporaries.

Acolyte is a slow-burning party album that progressively swells to a lively mid-album peak before taking you back down to a much more sedate level, just in time for the comedown.

It’s a genuine shame that this album has not received the summer release it probably deserved, but the tracks are all strong enough to battle through the chilly climate and emerge in an explosion of sweaty, dancing bodies at next year’s summer festivals.
