Hitting the wide open road on a Texas highway isn't something I'll be doing this year - and I'm seething with jealousy over all those god damn SXSW ticket holders! Seeth seeth.
The best we'll have to do then, is dig the new album by Drive-By Truckers, who are essentially a country-rock band with balls. The song structures here are quite familiar ('Birthday Ball' recalls 'Blowing Against The Wind') but some tasty guitar licks from Mike Cooley as well as a general willingness to walk with steel boots and tall shadows makes this record crunchy and satisfying.
