This Is Our Music

(Domino)

Back in the late 1980s Boston, Galaxie 500 were quietly and unassumingly making a nice line for themselves in dream-pop indie, and rather like the Pixies (although musically nowhere near as violent) found themselves picking up nods of influence as the years went on.
This month Domino are re-releasing the first three of their records, with their third one, This Is Our Music being the definitive work. It finds the band in a mood that's as blissed out as Mercury Rev ('Spook'), as sexy as the Cowboy Junkies ('Listen, The Snow Is Falling') and as quietly dignified as the Velvets in nursery rhyme-mode ('Melt Away').
The reissue also features a tasty document for the fans: a live recording of their last ever European show, called Copenhagen.
