Swedish electronic quartet Little Dragon formed in 2006, and since then have released two albums and a handful of singles as well as collaborating with the likes of Gorillaz. Obviously they’re doing pretty well, but on the basis of what’s spinning in my CD player right now, I fail to see why.

The biggest problem is the sheer amount of blips and beeps overlaying every track: not only are they incredibly irritating but they detract from the songs (some of which have pretty good underlying rhythms), rather than enhance them; the pudding is over-egged!

Vocalist Yukimi Nagano has a really nice voice, but even that can’t make up for the fact that she apparently has R2D2 as her backing singer. To be fair it’s not all bad: the single ‘Nightlight’ has a nice Asian flavour to it while ‘Please Turn’ has a great rhythm.

Without the abundance of sound effects it might have been OK, but as it is I can’t imagine wanting to listen to ‘Ritual Union’ again.
