Lewis Hingston admires Sennen's balancing of "rock-out impulses with a mature restraint" on 'Age Of Denial'

Sharing a name with one of Cornwall’s most beautiful coves, Norwich band Sennen attempt to balance the rugged landscapes in their sound with the kind of idyllic harmonising and lovelorn musings that accompany dusk in summer on the beach.
Talking crap about a pretty sunset is all well and good, but it takes stone cold confidence and skills to pull it off and not sound like weedy Built To Spill wannabes. Any such fears are allayed on the title track, as muscular drum rolls crash into wave after wave of distorted, yet stadium-sized guitars.
'When you’re sinking under, you can’t just hold your breath' may be an ambiguous line at best, but you can’t knock the conviction with which it’s delivered. ‘With You’ and ‘A Little High’ balance simplistic, poppy vocals with a rising tension in the playing and dark lyrics hidden behind a breezy exterior.
Sennen’s best attribute is the balancing of their rock-out impulses with a mature restraint - the best example of the latter being ‘Sleep Heavy Tonight’ which seems destined to soundtrack a soul-searching montage on ‘One Tree Hill’.
