Hot-DAWG! Who likes fuzzy swamp blues rock? I do. Well that’s just one part of Swanton Bombs’. They’re a rather confusing band actually, leaving me unable to pigeon hole them. Damn it: That would make it such an easier review to write.
‘Who’s Asking’ shifts genres into Punk. So now we’re doing punk? Ugh. It’s awesome, incidentally. Did I mention that? ‘Viktoria’ is the soon to be released single. I’m not too sure if this is the strongest single, but hey, I could be wrong. I do like Dominic McGuiness’s cracked vocals that clash it up real nice. Songs like ‘Waistland ‘demonstrate the Swanton Bombs’ ability to move seamlessly from RAWK to something a little more laid back.
By the way, Swanton Bombs is a shit name. It’s meaning is lost on me. It’s some sort of wrestling move, apparently. That makes sense – it fits the music I suppose. However, the album title Mumbo Jumbo and Murder is far more amusing.
I guess it’s about now I should compare them to some people, right? Uh, Black Keys. White Stripes. You know what though? They really remind me a hell of a lot of The XX Teens.
Mumbo Jumbo is a raggedy, dishevelled riot of guitars and snarled lyrics that prod and paw at The Ramones and people like that. Y’know, in a friendly way.
