Take a trip over to our singles section and you’ll find that we already rate the spiritual disco of ‘Hide Me’, the lead track from this album by NYC based boy/girl duo The Golden Filter.
The good news is that the rest of the record is equally spooky and compelling; ‘Dance Around The Fire’ has something of the white witch to it, with fiddles, handclaps and reverb-heavy wailing floating through its snappy dance beats. The clouds part for the optimistic chorus of ‘Look Me In The Eye’, but the tension remains in the periphery of its verses. ‘Solid Gold’, meanwhile, strikes up a DFA-style disco beat while singer Penelope – a sad siren if ever there was one – keeps one eye on the storm approaching outside the window.
This strange parallel between swivelling hips and introspective thought sustains the record, making for a uniquely late-night and contemplative listen.
