Complete with all new ‘Action Cam’ that will take gamers right onto the pitch and into the heat of battle, Codemasters® today announced International Cricket 2010™, coming this summer for the PLAYSTATION®3 computer entertainment system and Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft®.

International Cricket 2010 is set to continue Codemasters 15 year association with world class cricket and follows last summer’s Number One best seller Ashes Cricket 2009. Produced by Codemasters and developed by Trickstar Games, the Australian developer with a team pedigree that includes Ashes Cricket 2009 and the Brian Lara series, IC 2010 steps up to the crease with a range of innovations and enhancements to set the new standard in authentic cricket gaming.

The new Action Cam will immerse players in all the on-pitch drama, intensity and excitement of fiercely competitive international cricket. Supplementing traditional broadcast views, players can now feel the satisfaction of smashing home 90mph+ deliveries and experience the thrill of thundering down the track to bowl from Action Cam’s new on-field perspectives.

A key addition to the range of fielding, bowling and batting improvements is the new ‘Power Stick’. Giving batsmen 360° analogue power and direction control, Power Stick enables the widest selection of shots, from pushing quick singles to gaps in the field to risky shots and everything in between.

Officially licensed by the England and Wales Cricket Board and Cricket Australia to feature official players, stadia and kits, International Cricket 2010 can be enjoyed in a wide range of game modes including new instant tournaments. A comprehensive player editor enables gamers to put themselves into the game and the squad editor allows players to edit the player name, appearance, team and attributes of all athletes. Gamers can compete as any of the expanded roster of 16 nations at an improved selection of 21 stadia around the world, including Lord’s, the Home of Cricket.

“With a focus on taking gamers into the action like never before, International Cricket 2010 will deliver the most authentic cricket gaming yet,” said John Szoke, Producer, Codemasters. “Codemasters enjoys an unrivaled heritage in producing cricket games, and International Cricket 2010 will build on this success with a range of innovative gameplay features and enhancements.”

“We’re delighted to partner with Codemasters to develop the next leap forward in cricket gaming,” said Tony Parkes, Studio Director, Trickstar games. “Our passionate team of industry veterans, which includes development talent who have worked on the Brian Lara series and Ashes 2009, is determined to deliver the most immersive and intuitive cricket experience for all fans of the sport.”

Complete with local and online multiplayer, International Cricket 2010 launches this summer for Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION®3. For the latest news and screens, visit a codemasters.com/cricket.

    Memories of Charlie Gillett

Filed in Welcome to my World by Tom Artrocker at 16.24pm on 18 March 10

    Artrockers,
today I find myself in a contemplative mood, a little sad. Some people make a big impression on you, some people change your life, so when they die it comes as a bit of a shock. Such a person, in my life, was Charlie Gillett. I first felt the pull of his orbit in the 80s when I was asked to produce an album for him - it all got rather messy, as these things are wont to do, lots of artist tantrums, a fair bit of producer tantrum and Charlie in the middle playing Solomon. Unpleasant as the experience was Charlie persisted in working with me. He turned over the basement studio in the house he owned in Brixton to me to work on 'projects', like an ill fated attempt by the Spitting Image people to produce a TV version of Krazy Kat - I was given the job of writing and producing the soundtrack. But I wasn't allowed to smoke down there, Charlie was very anti-smoking. (But the rule was waived when Jah Wobble was working down there -Hmmmm). When I wasn't scrabbling around in the basement I'd be up in his office having deep, lengthy discussions about...well, music. I remember that our favourite falling out point was 'drugs and music' - I believed, and still do, that particular drugs are / were central to certain forms of music, to its conception and performance. Charlie disagreed, he believed them to be nothing but a diversion.
It was hard to argue with the Author of Sound Of The City. He told me the Ian Dury, Elvis Costello and Dire Straits stories, one day I'll pass them on to you. But you don't think of these things at the time, Charlie was a guy I worked for, sure I knew of his fame but, well, he was Charlie. It was only when my older, soul obsessed brother came to visit that I realised just how much of a living legend he was, my brother was all over him like a rash, cow-towing, fore-lock tugging, quoting whole passages of the book to him and reminiscing about Charlie sitting in on the Radio 1 Blues and Soul show back in the day.
I could go on all day.
Charlie was a great guy, sometimes annoyingly obdurate, sometimes plain wrong, mostly though he'll be remembered as a kind uncle who indulged the whims of a rather foolish young man.

Charlie Gillett, my thanks and love go with you

Robbie Williams & George Michael: The re-appraisal

Filed in Welcome to my World by Tom Artrocker at 18.27pm on 11 March 10

    Artrockers,
I am smoking a fag! A big, fat, menthol jobbie. I am doing this at home, not my 'workplace' as such, so don't go calling the cops. I'm allowed, for the time being at least, to smoke in my own home. And as the smoke goes down I say: 'Ooooh, that's lovely!' And as I finish it the stub joins many brothers in my overflowing ashtray. Bliss in the morning. Most of my smoking takes place pre-lunch, I don't know why but the nicotine has less appeal as the day wears on. Where am I going with this? Absolutely nowhere. But I have a funny idea that, in this world of shocks, many people are more shocked by the advocacy of smoking than they are by the advocacy of , for instance, War. Which brings me to Robbie Williams. The 'fat dancer' has been banging the drum for marijuana apparently:

"Weed, it's such a lovely drug. It is such a lovely drug. But it doesn't mix well with me - at all,'' he said. ''It doesn't take much to trigger - I mean, I'll get psychosis from having this cup of tea! Seriously. The caffeine in that's enough. Yeah. A cup of tea will make me feel like s***.''But it's just a shame about weed, because I did love it.'' A statement that has forced me to re-appraise Mr Williams, just as I had to take another look at George Michael, who also likes the odd bifter: "There's not another drug in life that I'm glad I took but grass." Of course Mr Williams apparently believes in UFOs and little green men, while Mr Michael likes to drive his car into things, all of which may not be the greatest advert for the drug, but somehow it makes them more human, more real, more like me.
