  1. Björn Loves John: Limited Edition Underwear

Filed in Fashion by Mirka Virtanen at 13.02pm on 01 August 11

    image

The two greatest sporting rivals of all time, Björn Borg and John McEnroe, have joined forces to bring back the 1980s air of fresh and cool with a collection of boxer shorts designed by the duo themselves.

This unique collaboration has been inspired by the golden age of tennis and, incidentally, all of the four different underwear styles have a look reminiscent of the eighties fashion of men’s tennis shorts. The collection is scheduled to launch in the autumn 2011, and will be available for a short period only. So get your hands on a pair and feel like an 80s tennis superstar – it could be a match of your life.

A portion of the revenues will be donated to the John and Patty McEnroe Foundation.

This time there wasn’t a hurricane. PLAN B, FRIENDLY FIRES, THE STROKES, PORTISHEAD, JOY FORMIDABLE, they all made it. And Alex Turner in his midnight blue leather jacket, he definitely made it.

Playing the headline slot, Sheffield’s finest, ARCTIC MONKEYS, came on with Hot Chocolate’s ‘You Sexy Thing’ and kicked off the new album, ‘Suck It And See’, with ‘Library Pictures’. Playing a killer set, the band continued with a further 6 tracks from the new record. Front man, Alex Turner, stripped down to his vest - following the example of most male members of the audience, festival folk responded by showing off some moves they’ve surely been saving for late nights on the nearby beach.

Bringing the day to a close were rock gods, PRIMAL SCREAM, playing an early morning set. Elsewhere, Indie favourites, THE STROKES, kept it dark and mysterious with an un-lit stage and a set that paid homage to their glorious heyday.

In the hot hot heat of the festival, it was mainly shorts and vests for guys and all about kicking your shoes off for a dance on the grass. The ladies, on the other hand, were mixing their super-short shorts – hot pants or high-waisted – with bright coloured tee-shirts and bikini tops. In the words of one festival goer, ‘isn’t this magic?’ Yes, yes it was.

Benicassim is the ultimate festival, with a paradise setting perked on the beach where sound limitations are non-existent. Gigs saunter late in the evening and come five o’clock, if you literally can’t dance any more, the beach is always there for a skinny dip to the sunrise. Perfection.

  3. TOPSHOP SAYS DONATE

Filed in Fashion at 14.28pm on 28 July 11

In the UK, a shocking six young people a day are told that they have cancer.

Teenage Cancer Trust is a charity that helps these young people to fight the disease and to get the medical treatment that they need. They believe that, “teenagers should not have to stop being teenagers because they have cancer” and the charity therefore focuses on the needs of this particular age group by providing specialist cancer units in NHS hospitals designed to give teenagers and young adults the very best chance of a positive outcome. As well as giving patients the help and support they need, the units also provide an environment in which young people are able to meet others in a similar situation.

Topshop has been working with Teenage Cancer Trust for three years, successfully raising money and awareness for the cause. Continuing its support for the charity this summer, Topshop have specifically selected three sun safe products of which £10 of every purchase will be donated between the 1st and 7th August. Customers are also invited to add a further £1 donation at till points, which will go directly to the cause.

Show your support by visiting a Topshop store and purchasing one of these beautiful floral kimono style tops!

    Levi’s Selvedge

Staying true to brand heritage, LEVI’S have revived the highly sought after red-line selvedge denim, more commonly associated with vintage denims, known as the Red Tab collection.

Originating from the term ʻself-edgedʼ, selvedge occurs when the entire denim loom is used to create a pair of jeans. The denim is then sewn together and the white finished edges are visible on the inside of the cuff, thus giving the jeans a recognisable detail that simultaneously conveys that the jeans are stronger and more durable. In the late 1920s, they introduced red coloured stitching in the white seam; an iconic feature that has been imitated by many brands.

Selvedge denim is the highest quality premium denim that Levi’s have continued to feature through-out. Levi’s Red Tab offers a vintage look where quality and craftsmanship are uncompromised, again proving that Levi’s are the leaders in their field.

    Levi’s DNA

As part of the Red Tab range, LEVI’S have released a new AW11 collection, DNA, that has an updated edge from their brand roots that typically features workwear comprising of experimental denim silhouettes.

The DNA Drop Crotch is a key piece of this collection, where its tapered leg exaggerates its structure, whilst the Slouch Fit epitomises the new loose fit with a tapered finish.

Shirts and tops feature workwear styling that focuses on quality for extra durability for everyday use.

The new collection takes into account new modern cultures for the more daring denim consumer but still maintains the brands unique heritage.
