Paloma Faith: Have Some Bloody Pride!
Roz interviews Paloma for some feel-good styling advice

She is bringing back the 40s and has been dubbed the originator of the burlesque revival movement; Paloma Faith has made quite a theatrical entrance into the industry but has become something of a styling inspiration as well as an outlandish performer.

Her debut album, 'Do You Want The Truth Or Something Beautiful' is out now and her new single 'New York' is out the 1st August.
Making her way around the festivals, still waiting to appear at The Big Chill and V Festival, Paloma's been keen to show the world how her daring style is becoming a performance in it's own right. She has been dressing up in 5 different alter egos which are all representations of her personality. The Isle of White Festival caughty a cheeky peak at the seductive "Leopard Lady" where she was head to toe leopard print, with matching red turban with red net veil, red chunky high heeled shoes and, of course, vampish red lipstick.

One of the reasons why Artrocker wanted to do this interview was because of your album cover, its gorgeous. We're guessing you are quite a creative person? Do you still get time to be creative?
Not as much as I'd like, I do try to use my time really carefully. If I do get free time I like to make myself feel invigorated by it. I'm thinking about writting some short stories, I have lots of ideas spinning around my head but I just need a couple of hours by myself to do it and I haven't had that for months! So I'm always churning out ideas or got something on the boil. At the moment I am working with the Guy Barker Orchestra a 48 piece Orchestra where I do covers fromt he 40s and 50s. Im also hoping to shoot a short film soon, in the style of Film Noir. So I do bits here and there...

You're very much visual as well as audio, where do you get your inspiration from when you dress? Do you just wear whatever you feel like, or movies or your theatrical background.....?
All of it!
Do you have any inspirational figures you aspire to? We can see a little bit of jessica rabbit in you....
Yeah I do love Jessica. I love all the 40s Hollywood stars like Greta Garbo and Rita Hayworth and Marylin Monroe. I love dressing up in certain characters, if I'm in a particular mood I will become it.
You're always dressed to impress, are there ever days when you just think; right...I can't be bothered?
When I get in, the first thing I do is get into my pajamas!

Who are your favourite designers?
Ashish, sequins are my favourite at the moment, Manish Arora, Louis Vuitton, Victoria Grant and Phillip Tracey
Do you make any of your own clothes or customise them?
No! I can't sew for shit. I do buy a lot of stuff vintage and have someone to alter it for me.
Where do you shop most? Is there a particular city where you love to shop?
I spend most of my time in London, so all my favourite shops are based here. I love to vintage shop at Blackout 2, Beyond Retro, Rokit and The Girl Can't Help It.
When it comes to your wardrobe, what is your most prized possession?
Red Stilettos!

Do you have any advice for dressing up?
I don't believe in seasons, I think it's all a load of rubbish. I think wear what you bloody well want, when you want. But I think my main piece of advice is, as women, we are so lucky to have gorgeous curvy bodies and to dress up it makes you feel really good about yourself. It doesn't matter what shape or size you are but I think it's nice to have a sense of occasion. I don't enjoy feeling dowdy, I like to live each day as if it's important. I promise to whoever is reading this, taking pride in the way you look will make you feel incredibly good about yourself. Ignore trends and embrace your body and your shape and enjoy it!
