Belakiss’ Japanese Tour Diary #1: Invasion of the Naked Stage Invaders
Belakiss drummer Alfie Milner reports from Japan, where the upstarts are currently touring with Kasabian. Warning: this article contains abuse of the homeless, champagne corks in eyeballs and Vanilla Ice
Since when were there beggars at Heathrow Airport? This guy is well pissed and it's not even midday. Why is it that it's acceptable to drink Stella at dick head o'clock in the morning when you're at the airport?
The only other event here apart from nearly missing our flight is the appearance of Vanilla Ice. We contemplate telling him what a complete bell end he is but decided he probably already knows this deep down. Yeah he knows for sure.
So we arrive at the venue, Yokohama Blitz, feeling slightly worse for wear. A heavy night of drinking at Red Shoes is the cause of such pains. It was a cool little hang out that we took over till the early hours, spinning some tunes and generally larking around like twats.
Met some interesting people including Keith Richards fashion designer. What a legend! We drag him back to our hotel. We feel that he is not used to such cheap digs and he leaves promptly after arriving. Not without giving Ben an amazing scarf. Soundcheck is smooth and we really start to feel like we're on tour. Kasabian make us feel right at home. Proper top boys.
I'm nervous, as you never know how things are going to go down in Japan. As it happens the crowd are here to party and rip the place up. Get in! Now we're on tour. The set goes down amazingly well. I was feeling slightly worried as we have put more moody psyched out tunes in compared to the more lively festival sets we played back in the summer.
The Kasabian boys are waiting to greet us as we come off stage. "Sounds like fockin' desert music man". Nice one Tom. They hit the stage and blow the fucking roof off it man. We see a crazy girl crowd surfing with a Belakiss t shirt on - it's definitely one of the highlights of the evening.
Other highlights of the show are the three naked guys, one of which makes it onto the stage wearing only a baseball cap. We have no idea where the rest of his clothes are as he is escorted out of the building. It was a cold night in Yokohama - the poor bastard.
It was Tom's birthday, so celebrations were to be had after the gig. A cake and magnum of champagne are waiting backstage - the cork of which ends up in Tom's eye! Cake everywhere. A right royal piss up. Bring on Osaka.
Wednesday is press day for us. We have interviews and photoshoots for Music Shelf, Crossbeat and Music Magazine. We have come a long way since the summer where we were stuttering and interupting each other. We all feel we could get used to this.
