"Making this playlist has been surprisingly difficult. It made me realise that I don't really listen to a lot of music to get 'pumped' for a night out/the weekend, etc. I tried to think of 'party' songs but it soon became apparent that since I was maybe 16 (I'm 23 now), I've been listening to pretty much exactly the same songs at parties, give or take a handful of songs. Bear this in mind when having a look through the tracklisting, and PLEASE don't think any of the inclusions are in any way sarcastic or ironic. I'm really quite worried about this, people.
It's actually quite incredible to think that I have probably heard Talking Heads or Thin Lizzy every time I've been at a house party, or requested Blink 182 every time I've been at a certain nightclub in Aberdeen. I suppose I'm a fan of repetition."
TRACKLISTING
1. Clarence Carter 'Looking For A Fox'
I came across this song in a fairly unlikely place. Got really into the version that John Candy sings in the sequel to 'The Blues Brothers', that is, 'The Blues Brothers 2000'. I think it was released in the year, 2000. After listening to the above version for months, and realising that I couldn't really get away with playing it when DJ'ing, I figured I should probably seek out the original. You'll be pleased to hear that it's as good as John Candy's version.
2. Talking Heads 'This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody)' (Live)
From the live movie/album, 'Stop Making Sense'. I dare you to find me someone who doesn't fall completely in love with this recording.
3. Bikini Kill 'New Radio'
I listen to the first couple of songs from 'Singles' when showering before a night out, quite often. Sexy.
4. The Delgados 'Everybody Come Down'
We recorded our album at studio owned by The Delgados/Chemikal Underground. They are a pretty big inspiration, both musically and in the way they operate. Can't praise them enough!
5. Kanye West 'Monster'
My second most embarrassing moment of the past six months was when I found myself singing the Nicki Minaj verse in this song, really loudly. On a pretty busy train.
