How would you define magic, and do you have faith in it?

Magic is all around us, all you need to do is accept that and great things can happen.

What's your favourite track on the new album and why?

I'd say my favourite track is "Blank Media" because I think it's the furtherest away from anything we've done before. It's the closest we've ever come to a ballad and is based on the Berlin song "Take My Breath Away".

You recently toured with Mogwai - what's your favourite memory of spending time with them?

We had a really good time throughout the tour with them, our sense of humour is pretty similar so it's usually a good laugh, often to the point of tears when Barry Burns is around. We had a great night out with them in Portland, they always seem to know the bars where you don't need to pay, which is very handy when you're on a long tour and have spent all your money on massive plates of meat and 2 litre cups of root beer.

What news/current affairs story interests you at the moment and why?

I enjoyed the story the other week about how Samoa was going to change it's time zone in order to be in sync with New Zealand and Australia because they were basically a whole day apart despite being neighbours and it made trading complicated. It went from being the last place on earth to watch the sun set to the first. There is something quite romantic and epic when you start to think about it.

Many Samoans were up in arms about it though because that had always been a selling point for them. It effectively lead to them having no December 30th, so anyone born on that day didn't have a birthday that year.

You haver one credit on the jukebox - what's it going to be?

No Parking On the Dancefloor by Midnight Star. This is a tune we had blasting away throughout the US tour, our driver eventually couldn't get enough of it. The video is also excellent.
