Jukebox Chatter: Tango In The Attic
Tango In The Attic are back with a second album of fresh-faced indie goodness - and now they have four questions and one jukebox credit with which to explain themselves!
In the past you've been described as "the Scottish Vampire Weekend" - but the new material seems to be getting away from the African element and becoming more unique. Where are you heading?
It’s hard to tell what something sounds like till you get a bit of time to look back on it. We went away and listened to a lot of different music. We allowed ourselves to be influenced by a lot more of the music we enjoyed which was really important in developing a sound on this album.
What important life lesson did you learn from releasing (debut LP) Bank Place Locomotive Society?
From a recording aspect we found a lot of sounds we really liked but couldn’t explore fully because of the nature of the songs we had written for it. Some of those sounds acted as a starting point for writing this album. We realised risk taking was important in writing this album, giving ideas the space they needed to develop.
What's the most important thing not to do to a live audience?
Expect anything from them. They’re there to see the show and not much else.
Scottish independence - are you putting your cards on the table or steering clear?
Steering clear.
And finally, you have one credit on the jukebox - what's it going to be?
Oasis, Hello. The noisiness of this album is brilliant. Hello as an opener is self-assured and direct. It sets the standard for the rest of the record.
