Jukebox Chatter with… The Drums
The Drums are kicking off their UK tour next week - and now they have four questions and one jukebox credit with which to explain themselves!
Welcome back to UK shores, The Drums! What's been your favourite memory of touring Portamento so far?
Portamento is a much more serious album than our debut was and it comes with a message or two - so I think the best moments on tour are when I am looking out and seeing a kid singing along with intent to a song like 'Book of Revelation' or 'Searching for Heaven'. It makes us feel like we are touching people, in some way.
The new single 'Days' is all about realising you've grown up and changed. What one life lesson has being in a band taught you?
When this band started I was so very uptight about everything and I think that blocked me from enjoying my life and enjoying touring and playing shows and so I am trying to teach myself to relax and let my feet hit the ground. I think I had this fear that everything could just go away as fast as it came and that would not allow me to live a real life. I am learning to chill out.
What current affairs/ news story is particularly interesting to you at the moment and why?
I haven't paid much attention to what's going on in the world. I have been focusing on being irresponsible. I've been shutting everything out except for music and what's left of my social life. I usually keep up with things but again...I am trying to relax more this year.
Finally, you have one credit on the jukebox - what's it going to be?
Velocity Girl, by Primal Scream.
