NUMAN WEEK: Gary Numan on emigrating to the USA"I'm kind of English to the core, so it's a bit weird, but I think that now there's a family involved you've got to look at things from a slightly wider perspective.

"I think overall that, from a career point of view, for me there is more opportunity there as I get older, new things I can evolve into that I probably couldn't here. I'd love to get into film scoring, TV, drama series, writing music for that sort of thing. I get songs placed in films but it's not the same as writing specifically for them. It would be unlikely I could do that here, we don't have a big enough film industry to cater for people like me getting involved in it. It's not easy anyway, it's not going to be easy in America but there's obviously more opportunity there as most films come from there. so there's that side of it.

"I want to keep the album - tour thing that I do now, I want to keep that going as long as possible, so it's not as if I want to move to America and stop. But it's being in a place where, as that does need to evolve in the coming years, at some point I'm in the right place to do that, I would have made all the contacts and I would have done, hopefully, a few lesser things and learned the way it works. so i think it's a good thing to do from that point of view.

"And, I think, for the lifestyle...I love the sun, I really do, but I like being in the shade looking out at it."
