We Are ScientistsNew York art-popsters We Are Scientists are playing this year’s SXSW no less than eight times. Who better then, to ask about this year’s industry event in Texas…

ARTROCKER: So you guys are kind of SXSW veterans – do you have any advice for first-time visitors in Austin?

WAS: Sure : for safety’s sake do not drink the water! Stick to things with anti-bacterial agents… like margaritas! That’s what we do anyway. That is pretty much the way we roll.

ARTROCKER: Let’s go through who’s playing this year then. Which bands are you gonna be clocking?

WAS: Well first up we want to see The Whigs from Athens, Georgia. We met them when we were all on tour with Kings of Leon and they ruined each night for us by being the best on – and the first on! Ha ha. The Whigs are like the cream… rising to the top of all the other cream. Does that make sense?

I want to see Rewards, which is Aaron Pfenning, the guy from Chairlift. I suspect he will be excellent.

There’s this rapper from Brooklyn called Theopilus London - he’s a dude who’s been getting a lot of buzz. He’s been working with Lightspeed Champion, so it’ll be interesting to see what those two have cooked up.

Who else… Oh man! There’s this band from somewhere in England… Everything Everything. I don’t know much about them but the two songs I’ve heard were great. Ideally they will be a delightful discovery.

And finally I just found out today that Les Savy Fav are playing. I’ve no idea what they’ve been up to… is there a new record? I haven’t seen ‘em in five years! But they were a massive influence on early We Are Scientists.
