Ultrasound Reunion: The First Interview
Glam rock misfits Ultrasound are back, and Artrocker.TV caught up with singer Tiny Woods after their first reunion show. at the Lexington, London...
Tiny, you just played the first Ultrasound gig in how long?
Eleven years...
How did it feel?
It felt great actually! The moment we walked on stage the audience were just amazing, and I didn't really expect that at all. I thought we were going to have to fight to bring it all back again, and all that business like in the old days! There was a lot of energy coming off the audience so it was fantastic.
Although you only made one album, you do have a lot of songs that people go bonkers for.
They were singing all the words to all the songs, weren't they? It's bizarre that after all that time... the idea that music is very temporal is not the case obviously. Good songs last forever.
Are Ultrasound making a new album?
We planned to do a new album straight away, as soon as we met we had new material. So we want to build on that and record a new album in whatever way we can find, and release it however we can.
Do you have any thoughts on the earlier period of the band now you're back together?
I got the impression we were "hyped". I did meet a lot of people on the road who said "oh I thought you were going to be shit because you're so hyped, but you're actually quite good." The hype was nothing to do with us - we were just trying to be a band, doing the things you have to do. We didn't create any of that hype.
Do you still get shivers down your spine when you sing the chorus to 'Stay Young'?
Ha ha! No, I get shivers down my spine when the audience sings the chorus to 'Stay Young'!
