Unwrapped: Being There / ‘To Allen Ginsberg’
Being There's frontman Sam discusses the band's Beat Generation-referencing paean to youth 'To Allen Ginsberg'
"I idolised the beats growing up, and this song is kind of about that. It's sort of a paean to youth, but also about that feeling of being stuck somewhere when you're young, be it a place or a mental state, and not being sure how to get out.
"I also wanted to write a song that says its ok to be different when you're growing up, that's a message I don't really hear from bands any more. Richard Formby has this amazing tape echo, he put it on the vocals and gave it a little beat too, to make it kind of spaced out.
