Young Knives Tour Diary: Part Ten
The tour hits Bristol as House confesses: "I really like eating cake with beer"...
26th May - Bristol
This Morning Oliver and I had a quick interview at BBC Oxford about the new record and stuff. It was all fine except that I decided to bike to the studio and then got caught in a monsoon. I arrived at the studio completely soaked through to my socks and pants and had to try and dry myself off with paper towels in the toilets.
Eventually the van arrived to pick Olly and I up to go to Bristol but I had to get them to take me home again first so I could change my clothes and avoid getting a nappy rash.
Dry grundies in place, we headed off to Bristol. I like Bristol, I think I would like to live there. It's got all the stuff that proper cities should have and it's not London. Also there seem to be loads
and loads of people we know in Bristol so the guest list is dangerously over subscribed and the small sweaty upstairs room at the academy was pretty jammed full.
The only problem with loads of people coming that I know is that I am actually fairly anti-social so having to be friendly and chat to loads of people can sometimes be a bit overwhelming. I much prefer to just sit in the dressing room before a gig and not talk to anyone. I know it sounds a bit Diva-ish but I like to collect my thoughts a bit before I go on stage and just think through how all the songs go and just generally get mentally prepared.
Anyway My sister came and I ended up not even talking to her all night which is really really bad.
No gig is complete in Bristol without Big Jeff dancing down the front. Ask anyone who goes to gigs in Bristol and they will tell you who he is. He is as his name suggests a big guy called Jeff who has beautiful long curly blonde hair and dances enthusiastically at the front of gigs. He is a Legend - he even has a documentary about him here: http://www.bigjeffdocumentary.co.uk/.
He is actually great for getting an audience going and really improves the vibe of any gig he is at. In Oxford we have a couple of people like that too. My favourite is Hippy dancing woman but she
doesn't seem to be about as much as she was. Maybe the recession has hit her too.
Gig done we loaded out into the van and have some more of the rum from yesterday. Also We made a good attempt at eating some more of the Birthday cake my friend Nell gave me at the Oxford Gig a couple of days ago. I really like eating late night cake with beer.
2 days left of this tour and I'm not ready to go home yet. Anyone want us to come and play their garage?
