Young Knives Tour Diary: Part TwoTuesday 17th May: York

This morning was spent in Wilkos buying cheap batteries and plastic boxes. I managed to resist the urge to buy a JML Multitool as advertised on the shopping channel. I love that stuff. Then we spent about an hour trying to find a drum shop to get some replacement skins from. Newcastle is very hilly and so there was a lot of walking up and down hills, we must have been within 100 yards of the shop the whole time but never actually managed to find it. Very frustrating. Plus this meant that we left late and got to York late and then didn’t soundcheck till late and then the other 2 bands didn’t really get to soundcheck. They probably think we’re right twats now. I remember a few tours where we were supporting other people and it always seemed like their soundchecks went on forever, leaving us with about 2 minutes to soundcheck before the venue opened the doors. Sorry. Very bad form.

In other news, my right shoe has fallen apart a bit and I can feel a breeze around my toes. I am in two minds as to whether I am going to buy a new pair of shoes or see how long these will last and I can get another pair of shoes when I go home at the weekend. Maybe I should facebook fans and see if anyone has a pair of size 9’s they don’t wear. Yeah I think I will. I like the idea of having to wear whatever shoes your given and then match your outfit accordingly.

So the gig went well. Fibbers in York is a venue we have played plenty of times before and we always seem to get a good crowd.

Anyway the evening ended in a very loud cocktail bar drinking fairly revolting cocktails. I couldn’t tell you what was in a Fidel Castro or a Britney Spears. I think these were all invented to finish off a load of out of date booze they had and need to shift. Anyway, safe to say I got too drunk and ended up wearing a pair of fairy wings that someone found on the floor. Then we got taken to a disco in a Chinese restaurant. It was pretty horrible and I got even more drunk. I think I was trying to drink the situation better but, once again, this tactic didn’t work. ED (tour manager) dragged me out of there before I embarrassed myself any more (still wearing wings and dancing like my dad). Drifted off into oblivion again shortly after promising myself that tomorrow I am not going to drink any booze.
