SpoonSpoon are and pretty much always have been a band that gets their point across in a fairly straightforward manner, and this efficiency was certainly reflected in tonight’s live show: singer/guitarist Britt Daniel didn't say a word to the audience until half way in – even by the end, his word count musts have peaked around twenty.

Tonight’s set is performed in an almost business like manner, which some may perceive as cold and impersonal, others as a way of confidently letting the songs speak for themselves.

This isn't to say they aren't having fun of course. Britt turns and smiles at bassist Rob Pope as he plays a brief guitar solo in a surprise cover of The Damned's 'Love Song', warping the fast-paced punk of the original into a reverb-drenched, synth-heavy interpretation which, quite honestly, felt very out of place amidst their originals.

Spoon's live performance has undergone a few changes since their last tour in support of their critically acclaimed album Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga. In particular, their previous generosity with playing old material has been transformed into a focus on the new: tonight contained no songs from the first three albums at all.

Another noticable difference came in the increased incorporation of effects into their show, allowing the band to recreate a few studio songs almost perfectly. One distraction, however, was a reverb explosion that kept surrounding Britt's voice - the first time round was interesting, but it soon got stale.

Though Spoon's live show may not offer much structural diversion from their recordings, there's something undeniably satisfying about Britt's unhinged vocals (especially on new single 'Written in Reverse') and when they lock into one of their signature grooves, it sends shivers down your spine.
