Toy / Heaven

It’s a cold and quite frankly miserable night in London, however that makes it the perfect atmosphere to head out and see two of the most hotly tipped names in dark psychedelica.

ToyDark Horses are a band that make in an impression, both visually and musically. With a sound that merges the Banshees, with the Doors and Crazy Horse, they certainly know how to conjure up a post sixties acid casualty vibe. Vocalist Lisa Elle is a mix of Grace Slick and Nico as she writhes around the stage alternately crooning and screeching. They look like a cross between Bauhaus and the Baadar Meinhof Gang and you will be seeing a lot more of them in 2013.

A lot has been written about Toy, indeed 2012 has definitely been their year. They’ve taken their own brand of elegant Shoegaze and Psyche around the country, and tonight they’re bringing it back home to a packed London crowd. Fan favourites like “left myself behind” and “Lose my way” take on epic scope in the live setting, but their pop nuances still shine through. Ending with sublime renditions of 'My Heart Skips a Beat' and 'Kopter' the bands have demonstrated once again why are they not just the east London mafia’s flavour of the month. Set for bigger and better things next year, we can’t wait to see what they do next.
