Flight of the Conchords’ Jermaine to star in Men In Black 3
Jermaine Clement starts to reap the rewards of being a comedy genius...
First of all, let's deal with the totally awesome news that there's a Men In Black 3. Men In Black kicked balls and had a profound effect on me as a youth. So much so that when McDonalds gave away Men In Black sunglasses with a Happy Meal, I (as a vegetarian who has never enjoyed a first hand Happy Meal Toy) went all the way to the top of Brixton Hill for a few older boys on my estate to buy them McDonalds because I was allowed to keep the sunglasses. They were also selling Tropical Milkshakes that summer. They should bring those back.
Why did I love Men In Black so much? Apart from being a genius film it starred Will Smith, who was a god to me. Between 'Boom Shake The Room' and Fresh Prince, there was nobody cooler in the world. Not nobody. I'm sure the kids of 2010 feel the same. Why wouldn't they? Because they're stupid. Totally that's possible. But even if they do feel like that, they've got a new hero to lure them into the awesome Men In Black franchise. I say franchise, the second film was shocking. Jermaine Clement from Flight of the Conchords will play the villain in the third installment. Couldn't you just see it?
The film, which apparently sees Will Smith's Agent Jay travel back in time to work with his classic partner Tommy Lee Jones' younger self, played by Josh Brolin [Googles Josh Brolin...No Country For Old Men, American Gangster, W, Wall Street 2...he's clearly had a push but he's made no impact on me]. Classic comedy fodder I'm sure you'll agree.
The film is slated for a May 2011 release and I'm going to download the 'Men In Black' original theme song now. I believe the lyrics were written by Jay-Z if I'm not mistaken. "The good guys dress in black remember that"
