Gil Scott-Heron’s autobiography to be released next year
Entitled 'The Last Holiday: A Memoir'.
The poet and musician Gil Scott-Heron’s autobiography, 'The Last Holiday: A Memoir', has been slated for release for early next year.
Scott-Heron, whose often political spoken-word pieces mixed with funk, jazz, blues and soul was a key influence on hip-hop, passed away on 27 May of this year, aged 62.
'The Last Holiday' will focus on Scott-Heron's part in the American civil rights movement, as well as his 1980-81 tour with Stevie Wonder.
Both Scott-Heron and Stevie Wonder campaigned to have Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday officially recognised as a national holiday in the U.S., and so the book will be released on Martin Luther King Jr. Day (which is observed on the third Monday in January, and falls on the 16th next year) in fitting tribute.
