Plan-B might go dubstep, reggae or folk on next album
Plan-B wants to make his next album about something in a genre or something...
When somebody who has released a rap album and a soul album, says they're thinking about making their next album dubstep, reggae or folk, doesn't that strike you as the kind of artist you can really get behind? Where's he going to go next? Reggae? Don't like reggae. Pass. Dubstep, TIm Westwood already explained in no uncertain terms that nobody cares about dubstep!.
I remember seeing Plan-B on Soccer AM just before his smash unbelievably successful 'The Defamation Of Strickland Banks' album was released and Hellen Chamberlain asked him "Are you worried that your old fans might not follow you in this direction?" to which Plan-Bizzle responded, with a totally straight face "I figure, if you're my fans, you'll like whatever I do!" as the studio erupted with laughter it became clear that the rapper/singer wasn't joking and the trademark Soccer AM awkward pause was met with an extended intake of breath from both presenters. That level of humourlessness and total lack of awareness is probably what makes Plan-B so successful. We put him on at The Garage in 2005 and as angry as he was, he was pretty good. I'm sure he's really good these days.
I'm so off topic. We gave Plan-B's last album 'The Defamation Of Strickland Banks' a 5/5 review in the magazine and we stand by that. The follow-up plans appear to be at something of a crossroads though, vowing to retire his Strickland Banks alter-ego after his current tour, Ben told The Daily Star he's unsure of which direction to take his third album "It could be dubstep or reggae. We almost released a folk song. That's the thing about me. If I feel like I've created a great piece of music then it doesn't matter what genre it is, I'll put my name to it. Just expect me to always come from somewhere outside the box".
Do you remember when Amy Winehouse released that colossally successful soul album and then turned in a reggae album which got unceremoniously rejected by Universal? Of course you do, it was like last year. Good luck Ben. Make the best reggae album you can be!
