Skepta to take “a host of fresh new urban talent” on MOBO Awards Tour

There's something not quite right about the MOBO Awards isn't there? Always has been really but these days especially. "Urban" music is on such a high and has been for a couple of years but the crowd still do weird things like boo Tim Westwood. What gives anybody the right to boo Tim Westwood? I was actually with Tim two MOBOs back when he won best DJ and was booed off. He came and DJ'd an Artrocker party later that night and he clearly didn't let it affect him or anything but honestly, how strong would a MOBO Award ceremony be without the work Tim Westwood put in? I remember when I was a kid I hated Tim Westwood, he just plays American shite! Boo! But as I Got older I learned he was as close to genius as Radio personalities got. If you haven't figured that out yet, I envy the day you do.

I get this impression with most award ceremonies as they're all absolute nonsense, but the MOBO Award really does go to whoever is in the room doesn't it? I remember when Sway won, it was like "Wow! Go Sway! You beat all the big Americans!" then the next year somebody with an even lower profile than Sway won it, I can't remember who it was and it was all like, "Uh huh? Not Jay-Z you say? But this guy? Hmmm". It's one of those shows you wish was good but it's so 90s. The whole thing. Ho hum. Here's hoping this year delivers.

The MOBO Tour (which is new) is a partnership between the Coda agency and SJM and will be headlined by the biggest grime rapper that you've seen thus far; Skepta. Skepta has a great voice and knows how to use it, usually by shouting but not always. The Boy Better Know frontman will take "a host of fresh new urban talent" across the UK in October.
