Team Ghost
Celebrate What You Can't See EP
(Sonic Cathedral)

Just in time for Halloween, the ethereal spirits behind Team Ghost are back with this darkly ambient EP, a warm fire to ignite the eyes of pumpkins everywhere. Mwah hah hah!
Although they have much in common with Mogwai (the slow, impending sense of euphoric doom) the title track of this record more accurately summons the atmosphere of The Cure's 'Disintegration', while 'High Hopes' seems to have an echo of Tubular Bells (aka The Exorcist theme tune) amidst its shoegaze guitars, whispered incantations and epoch-tronics.
Team Ghost; they're tragically delicious!

Little Comets
Isles

(Dirty Hit Ltd)

After spectacularly falling out with their major label Columbia, Little Comets return with ‘Isles’, replete with fables of how this is more them now that the corporate fat cats have turned their noses up and slinked off in the direction of Fergie’s “humps”.
The result is a jangly, credit crunch-referencing track, with a chorus of “the kids are running wild!” – the kind of thing you’d imagine David Cameron would utter the next time his bike is stolen by a pikey/socialist hero.
It is, in subject if nothing else, a ‘Ghost Town’ for the noughties, but with all the bite taken out by the bods at Health and Safety.
