Aliens and Predators. Freddies and Jasons. Tories and Lib Dems. We're all familiar with what happens when two sinister forces come together to create strange juxtapositions - but what happens when two downright heroic parties team up?
Readers, the answer is finally upon us - and it's LOUD. Because Dance To The Radio and Brew Records, two of the brightest lights in the UK's indie label scene, have created a limited 10" vinyl to coincide with Record Store Day. And the Royal Wedding. Apparently.
This four track collection has a perfect symmetry with the New Heavy Sounds scene that Paul Artrocker is currently mining, and it's mentally good. Starting off with the merciless hardcore of Dolphins and their mean-buttocked stomp 'Escape', the EP then pulls out a party trick: it's 'Club Foot' by Kasabian! Well, it's not literally 'Club Foot' by Kasabian, it's actually Leeds maniacs Blacklisters covering it. And mutilating it. Into something very heavy.
The unofficial best band in the universe Castrovalva follow with their trademark satire of dubstep/punk/hip hop craziness 'Senorita', then Hawk Eyes finish off the carcass with 'Yes Have Some' - the only song in musical history to have accurately depicted the inner workings of a Dalek brain. This record is so good, it it almost makes you say 'PHWOAR' like a complete and utter pervert.

Hedonistic riot-rock is the meal of the day served up by Oakland's Lecherous Gaze, and despite containing what sounds like Slash jamming over Motorhead and a whiskey-brained singer, it's fast and fruity fun.

Britpop also-rans Shed Seven had the piss taken out of them at the time, but in retrospect they had a few decent tunes, 'Chasing Rainbows' among them (Youtube it). Brother might like to think they're Oasis via Primal Scream, but they've far more in common with Shed Seven - average indie with the decency to be lively, melodic and pop.
And while that's not what they'll want to hear, there are certainly worse insults you could throw at a band.

The Sound of Arrows

This debut single from synth poppers Sound Of Arrows sounds like Take That headed down the Ministry Of Sound. What’s even more mysterious is that, thanks to a clichéd but nonetheless Big Pop Chorus, they just about get away with it too.
