Fear and Doubt
Domino
****

Armed with a cast of Glasgow’s finest, Lightships aka Teenage Fanclub’s Gerard Love, unites some former TF bandmates and Belle & Sebastian and The Pastels representatives for his latest EP: Fear and Doubt. Hot on the heels of acclaimed debut album Electric Cables, Lightships delivers a characteristic mix of beautiful, shimmering melodies and heartbreaking harmonies leaving you to simply drift away. Quiet reverberations and lilting guitars breeze you along with this blissed out sound, unearthing memories of walks through early morning Glasgow. Carefree missed trains and lazy summers, reminding us why the Scots really are the champions of alternative.

Need It
(Luv Luv Luv)
***

I think I'm meant to like this. I think I'm meant to love it. But there's something fishy about a band who only formed in February of this year and already have a UK tour planned out... Hype? Perish the thought! Need It shows that this duo have deffinitely been in bands before, but there's a little too much over bearing 'noisy' production work here beefing up the lack of variation between their verse and chorus to make it a proper indie tune.

Magnolia
(Ark Recordings)
****

A project between Swede Petter Ericson Stakee and Londoner Terry Wolfers, this Brooklyn based duo return with album number two and a new single. Magnolia is a big crowd pleasing experiment, MGMT but with less dodgy synths. Shredding guitars peel through a gospel choir while Elbow must be sitting wondering who these new-ish guys are ready to take their position as the soundtrack makers to every successful moment played on TV ever. A track to get you prepared for your jog in the morning, it'll make your four kilometers sound like a marathon.
