Olympia and The Wastes Of West London
Tom Artrocker ponders the least side of London we generally try to forget...
Artrockers,
It takes something a bit special to make me drive to West London mid-week in the rush hour, to be honest it ususally takes dynamite to get me anywhere near West London at the best of times, regular readers will know that I'm not a fan of that part of town, believing as I do that it's not London at all but a giant over-flow, a suburban sprawl that starts at The Edgware Road and spreads west like...a suburban sprawl. It's not helped by the traffic, a constant grid-lock that makes travel a nightmare. But enough of my West London bashing - what was it that made me face the rigours of the pseudo-suburbs? Well, the last time I was tempted into my own personal no-go zone it was to interview Yoko Ono at her Knightsbridge hotel - even West London wasn't going to deflect me from that course as I'm sure you'll appreciate. So it had to be something more than just 'a bit special'. My crawl through the traffic took me to Olympia where a certain Mr Bryan Ferry lurks, deep in preparation for the release of his new album which is called...Olympia. If I was nervous about meeting Yoko it didn't compare to my fear of Ferry - you see, if I have heroes he's top of the list. I needn't have worried, Mr Ferry was a pleasure to talk to, a real gentleman of the old school (like me natch). You can read all about it in the next issue of Artrocker Magazine.
But let's not get too far ahead of ourselves, after all we've ony just published this month's issue. Mr Ferry thought it looked great, and since there is no man alive with better taste I think you should all pop out and buy it now, or just hit the button below.
